Today is Anti-Bullying Day #PinkShirtDay and EllisDon united from coast to coast to raise awareness against bullying, harassment, and discrimination by showcasing our solidarity in pink!

To highlight our commitment, we got together to showcase our pink shirts, enjoy some pink cookies and wear the “Kindness Matters” buttons, created by ALLiED, EllisDon’s Inclusive Diversity group.

Pink Shirt Day arose from a 2007 incident at a Nova Scotia high school in which a Grade 9 student was bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt. In response to this, two other students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, purchased and distributed 50 pink shirts, which sent an unequivocal message of support for the targeted student.

Now, 17 years later, on the last Wednesday in February, people across Canada wear pink to reinforce the same silent, peaceful — yet uniquely powerful — statement against all forms of bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

Wearing pink on February 28 means no one needs to suffer in silence. Join us in commemorating the impactful history that gave rise to this movement.
