Digital Project Delivery

Employee working on a digital model

Our models can get so complex that you can take a whole skyscraper and filter it by material type; you can even see quantities of that material, from the concrete to the pipes in the wall. This level of detail makes it possible to anticipate risks, and ultimately provide excellent value on project efficiency, materials and costs.

-Hammad Chaudhry, Vice-President, Innovation & Construction Technology

The Digital Project Delivery team has one clear goal: to increase collaboration and transparency at every stage of a project by accurately replicating the physical world in the digital environment. Drawing on 15 years of experience in Virtual Design & Construction, we utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools to craft projects in the digital environment before they get physically built; producing a virtual model that functions like a 3D blueprint.

Visualizing all the different stages of construction from excavation to ribbon cutting enables us to resolve conflicts in the design before a project begins and identify and address deficiencies before shovels hit the ground. These digital models provide a new way to manage assets; they’re essentially a complete digital duplicate for facility managers that show equipment locations, specifications, and a full construction history for future facility rehabilitation and redevelopment.

2021 CanBIM Digitalization Strategy Award Winner: Automating BIM Compliance & QA/QC

Our team developed in-house cloud application to facilitate the compliance check and various BIM models by utilizing automated, data-driven solutions.

The application was developed to achieve two main goals. The first goal was to automate the QA/QC of submitted BIM models as well as KPI scoring to evaluate the BIM implementation status, and the second goal was to provide an interactive reporting tool to clients with data analytics and illustrative assessment of various BIM usages.

The EllisDon Edge

  • Increased communication and collaboration. Digital Project Delivery provides accurate project information in real-time, enabling all disciplines to see and reference the same model in order to make informed and proactive decisions.

  • A working model that reduces risk and cost. To give us an in-depth understanding of the design, requirements, logistics, and materials, and to identify and address any issues before construction begins.

  • Understanding buildings from the inside out. When a project is completed, the model is also handed over to building operators; this provides them with a detailed digital log of exactly what’s in the building and where, and it even links to the datasheets on the equipment inside.

  • A living, breathing model. Our multidisciplinary team is actively engaged throughout the lifecycle of a project to ensure every decision made is supported by data. There is always a representative on-site, and their expertise can even extend into the operation of the asset once construction is complete.
