EllisDon Announces the Groundbreaking of the New Brunswick Museum

We are thrilled to announce the official groundbreaking of the New Brunswick Museum in Saint John, New Brunswick!

The museum is the oldest continuing museum in Canada, marked as a key cultural institution in New Brunswick. Originally constructed in 1929, the building continues to be a principal repository for the province’s natural and human histories.

As tourism, heritage, and culture communities continue to evolve, new infrastructure is required to meet the province’s needs.

The New Brunswick Revitalization project involves the construction of five new wings to the north section of the museum, and structural improvements to the east wing, to connect two previous facilities. The anticipated changes will improve access between interior and exterior public spaces.

Key features of the project include:

  • 115-seat auditorium
  • Multi-storey public great room
  • Rooftop terrace
  • Nine exhibiting galleries
  • Flexible spaces, designed for educational purposes, community events, etc.

The project is also targeting LEED Silver certification and Net Zero qualification, to meet the emissions criteria set by New Brunswick’s Sustainable Goals Act.

We would like to thank the team at the New Brunswick Museum alongside Premier Blaine Higgs; Tracy Clinch, museum board chair; Tammy Scott-Wallace, minister of heritage, tourism and culture; Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long; and Saint John Mayor Donna Reardon.
