In recognition of this year’s World Quality Week, we asked them: “You Do What Now?”

In short, the Corporate Quality Assurance team at EllisDon is a group of highly knowledgeable and incredibly qualified experts who identify and help navigate high-risk elements of projects. Nestled within the Construction Sciences division, the Corporate Quality Assurance team leverages the talent of EllisDon’s in-house technical experts and engineers to develop and implement the most effective solutions and mitigation strategies. This is what sets our Quality Program apart from others.

It’s About Consistency. 

It starts with Quality Initiation Meetings held before the start of every project to onboard each of our unique project teams. Then we have full-time dedicated Area Quality Leaders in every business unit who are immersed in our Quality Program to ensure that we bring a level of consistency across each area of the business. That consistency is maintained through our Corporate Quality Assurance team which ensures that there is effective training, coaching and implementation of our Quality Program across the company. The goal is to “do it right the first time”, ensuring minimal rework today, tomorrow, and in the future.

“We’re proud of the ways we’ve been able to embed quality into our day-to-day field operations,” said Adam Makino, Vice President, Quality, Construction Sciences, EllisDon. “The creation of a robust online training platform, our EllisDon KnowlEDge Hub, was a key step in ensuring Quality is something everyone across the organization can learn about and integrate into their everyday work.”

The KnowlEDge Hub is just one of several tools supporting the ongoing development of EllisDon’s Quality initiatives. The implementation of Fieldwire, our core field management platform, and the digitization of key quality processes, has helped EllisDon become more efficient and leverage data in the continuous improvement of our quality practices.

Planning for Water and Winter.

These practices have resulted in tangible improvements in the development of EllisDon’s Water Damage Prevention Plans and Winter Planning Toolkit for project sites. Both initiatives address key risks, while ensuring the adaptability required for the wide range of unique projects EllisDon is involved in.

The Proactive Approach

“Quality has become part of how we do the work, not an entirely separate process,” said Makino. “It’s important to us and our corporate culture that we take a proactive approach towards assessing risk and developing mitigation strategies, at every moment, of every day, on every project and in every department. The Corporate Quality Assurance team’s work helps us do that in a very tangible, and meaningful way.”
