The Story
When asked, David Naylor, University of Toronto president said, “The University of Toronto is committed to enriching the student environment and this innovative building furthers that goal.” And, this was our firm intent in the construction of an educational facility meant for interdisciplinary study. We wanted the building to live up to (and even surpass) its potential as a hub for discovery, research, learning, and creation.
Without a doubt, it is the faculty and students who push technology and communication forward but it has always been our hope that the 260,000 square-foot building, with its inviting design, grand scope, and plentiful natural light, encourages them in some small way. The buildings educators and students teach and learn in multimedia studio theatres, interactive computer classrooms, custom editing suites, and celebrate creativity in the e-gallery for electronic art.
All in all, the Communications, Culture, and Information Technology Building is a study in balancing form and function and a powerful example of what can be achieved when stakeholders come together as ready partners on behalf of education.
