The Story

EllisDon completed phase 1 of the 81,500 sqaure-foot Strathcona Community Hospital, which consists of urgent care, diagnostic imaging, laboratories, rehabilitation, primary care network and chronic disease management spaces. The scope also included the CASA House, which is a $9.6 million mental health facility for children and adolescents that shares the site with the hospital.

After EllisDon successfully turned over the hospital, Alberta Health Services created an 8,000 SF shell space sub-project for addiction and mental health care within the new hospital, which meant that EllisDon had to coordinate construction within a live hospital with active 24/7 care. EllisDon implemented a new infection control plan that met the Canadian Standards Association standards to ensure that all aspects of the sub-project did not affect the hospital’s patients, staff or visitors.
