The Story
The new hospital consolidates services provided at the Providence Care St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital (physical medicine and rehabilitation, complex continuing care, palliative care, geriatric medicine, and mental health services). The 270-bed facility was built on the existing Kingston Provincial Campus of Ontario Infrastructure & Lands Corporation, adjacent to the site of the existing Mental Health Services facility. The design of the new hospital incorporated modern approaches to health care with fully accessible hallways, bright living spaces and areas for group activities and gatherings. The inpatient rooms are single rooms with bedside touchscreens to adjust environmental and entertainment controls with an adjoining private washroom and shower.
Providence Care Hospital patient and visitor amenities include quiet rooms, family lounges, kitchenettes and dining areas. The rehabilitation gym includes a walking track, therapy equipment and a therapy pool. Also included are areas for religious services and community gatherings, a lecture hall, cafeteria, gift shop, research support facilities, and an administration area. The exterior works include multiple outdoor courtyards, gardens and terraces that will provide patients with a comfortable area to gather with family and friends.
