The Story
The Lethbridge Airport, a facility that has been serving passengers since 1979, underwent a significant renovation project aimed at enhancing the overall traveler experience. The project focused on modernizing the airport's interior and improving its functionality and comfort.
Renovation Highlights:
- Installation of new flooring and ceilings to refresh the look and feel of the airport.
- Addition of high-quality furniture for increased passenger comfort.
- Creation of a feature wall to elevate the aesthetic appeal of the airport interior.
- Construction of a new coffee/beverage kiosk to offer refreshments to travelers.
- Upgrades to washrooms, including the construction of new facilities and storage areas.
- Infilling of the existing round windows on the west wall for improved insulation and aesthetics.
- Relocation of the current exterior door to optimize passenger flow.
- Reconfiguration of existing washrooms, adding a family/gender-neutral washroom to enhance convenience and inclusivity.
- Construction of a vestibule for the terminal building hold room to minimize heat loss and prevent the ingress of cold air.
- Installation of new glazing on the east building main floor façade to allow more natural light into the arrivals/departures hall.
Operational Considerations: To ensure that the Lethbridge Airport could continue its daily operations without interruption, the renovation was performed in phases. This strategic approach allowed for the smooth functioning of the airport while the improvements were being implemented.
