The Story
The Kearl Oil Sands project involved the construction of three new buildings located in an isolated area approximately 120 kilometres north of Fort McMurray. The scope of work included the slab-on-grade, erect structure above grade, building envelope with cladding/built-up roofing and interior fit-up which will utilize heavy-duty crane and tank storage.
The major challenges presented the team with this particular site was the remoteness of the location as well as the strict security and documentation required, which is typical for most industrial projects. To offset these challenge,
EllisDon provided a full team of site specific QA/QC personnel, Safety Specialists and Supervisors to oversee daily operations and ensure maximum efficiency.
The concrete, steel, and mechanical and electrical (M&E) equipment used on the project was procured by the owner and installed by the contractor.
The facility is capable of servicing heavy oil sand hauler trucks for the Imperial Oil Kearl Oil Sand site.
