EllisDon is on a journey to net zero! This means prioritizing constructing climate-friendly buildings and finding new, innovative, and sustainable ways to be more carbon-conscious.

EllisDon’s Ottawa team, supported by Sustainable Building Solutions (SBS) has been working with Hybrid Power Solutions to procure Hybrid Generators to power some of our construction infrastructure on site. The “Spark” generators consist of a 24-kW battery connected to a 12x340-Watt solar panel, which charges the battery and powers the infrastructure.

Also included is a small diesel generator that will act as a backup/top-up for the battery when solar can't meet the entire demand, expecting to reduce emissions by at least 60%.

Traditional generators often run continuously at partial load, which is very inefficient. This small gen+battery hybrid allows the generator to cycle on and off at full capacity, producing much more efficient combustion and energy production.
