EllisDon Leaves Its Mark on Calgary’s Arts Culture

The first phase of the Arts Commons Transformation project – the Expansion - is set to usher in an era of expansion for the arts and entertainment culture in Calgary.

The core of the first phase includes the construction of the Expansion, a complex housing a 200-seat studio theatre, and a 1000-seat theatre, capable of numerous stage and seating configurations. The complex will also include rehearsal space and amenities to support both front and back of house.

"Arts Commons has been the cornerstone of Calgary's arts and entertainment scene since the 1980s, pivotal to the city's cultural fabric,” said Sean Dekoning, Senior Vice President, Area Manager - Calgary, EllisDon. “We're always on the lookout for chances to make a difference in our communities, and honestly, what could have a bigger impact than helping to shape the future of such a significant cultural hub.”

This timely response to the community’s growing demand for flexible, accessible arts and performance venues tailored to diverse and relevant programming, supports EllisDon’s ongoing commitment to build spaces that bring people together and help communities thrive.

It is an opportunity for us to leave another positive mark on Calgary’s landscape and build the foundation of a cultural hub that will be loved for years to come.
